XXXVII Congress of the Eurasian Association of Trade Union Organizations of the Universities

On September 25-29, 2024, the XXXVII Congress of the Eurasian Association of Trade Union Organizations of the Universities was held at the Belarusian State University of Economics (Minsk, Republic of Belarus). The theme of the congress was “Strengthening interstate ties and new opportunities for the activities of primary trade union organizations of universities”.
 
Before the start of the XXXVII Congress of the EATUOU, the delegates visited the International University “MITSO” (International Institute of Labor and Social Relations), an educational institution of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, and also held an open meeting with the Chairperson of the Belarusian Trade Union of Education and Science Workers Tatyana R. Yakubovich and the university management. The delegates of the congress were greeted by the Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, Rector of MITSO Vladimir M. Pozdnyakov.
 
On September 26, 2024, the opening of the XXXVII Congress of the EATUOU took place at the Belarusian State University of Economics. The congress delegates heard a greeting from the President of the Eurasian Association of Universities, Hero of Labor of Russia, Rector of Moscow State University, Academician Viktor A. Sadovnichy.
 
The Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Yekaterina A. Petrutskaya, Chairperson of the Belarusian Trade Union of Education and Science Workers Tatyana R. Yakubovich and the First Vice-Rector of the Belarusian State University of Economics Tatyana V. Sadovskaya addressed the delegates of the congress with greetings. They noted the important role of the association in solving social issues of employees and students of higher educational institutions of the EATUOU member countries, and also emphasized the importance of strengthening interstate ties in the activities of the trade union organizations of the association.
 
The heads of trade union organizations of 43 universities of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic took part in the work of the congress. The participants of the congress included 90 delegates from universities of the EATUOU member countries, a delegation from the Trade Union of Education and Science of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Trade Union Council Ravshat M. Bedilov, as well as guests: the head of the Ramenki Municipal District (Moscow) Stanislav N. Dmitriev, the head of the Tabasaran District of the Republic of Dagestan Magomed S. Kurbanov, and trade union activists from Belarusian universities.
 
The organizers of the congress chose significant venues for holding plenary sessions. The sessions were held at the Belarusian State University of Economics, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, and the National Library of Belarus. The delegates were introduced to the great history of the Belarusian people, its culture and traditions, lay flowers at the Stele “Minsk – Hero City”, took a sightseeing tour of the city of Minsk, visited the Student Village and the Volunteer Center, which left bright and unforgettable impressions on the participants of the congress.
 
 
At the congress, 34 participants, invited guests and leaders of primary trade union organizations that joined the Association made reports and presentations.
 
Having heard and discussed the report of the President of the EATUOU I.B. Kotlobovsky “Strengthening interstate relations and new opportunities for the activities of primary trade union organizations of universities”, speeches of the chairmen of trade union organizations of employees and students of universities of the countries participating in the Association, the delegates noted the timeliness and importance of the issues discussed for the development of relations between the universities-participants of the EATUOU in the main areas of work of trade union organizations. In their speeches, the delegates of the congress noted the importance of developing contractual relations between universities on a wide range of issues; shared their experience in assessing the results of scientific and educational activities of the tutorial staff, the specifics of the organization and motivation of trade union projects. Of great interest was the speech of the rector of the Minsk State Linguistic University Natalia Ye. Lapteva “Interaction between the employer and the primary trade union organization of the Minsk State Linguistic University – the key to confident movement forward.” It is very symbolic that the rector speaks about social partnership at the trade union congress. This emphasizes the relevance of the Eurasian Association as a guarantor of strengthening interstate relations between universities, confirms the need for effective cooperation of the Association with sectoral Trade Unions of Education of the EATUOU member countries, trade union federations and the rector’s corps.
