At the invitation of Vladimir Dubyansky, the chairman of the trade union organization of Voronezh State University, the XVII Congress of the Eurasian Association of Trade Unions of Classical Universities of the CIS countries was held on September 22-24, 2004 at Voronezh State University.
Representatives of 17 universities of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, chairmen of trade union committees of universities in Voronezh, leaders of the Voronezh Regional Committee of the Trade Union of Education and Science, and managers of the Voronezh State University took part in the congress.
Ye. Popova, Vice-Chairman of the Voronezh Regional Committee of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers, Vice-Rector of VSU Professor V. Titov addressed the participants of the congress.
At the plenary session, a report on the socio-economic implications of the modernization of higher education for university teams and the tasks of trade union organizations on interaction with the administration of universities and local state authorities was made by the President of the EATUOU I. Kotlobovsky.
The participants of the congress adopted an appeal to the workers of education and science of the CIS countries in connection with the terrorist act in the city of Beslan.
In the framework of the Round Table, the discussion of issues on the agenda of the congress was continued. Presentations were made by the chairman of the trade union committee of Dagestan State University A. Abdusalamov, the chairman of the trade union committee of Kalmyk State University A. Iltsaranova, the chairman of the trade union committee of Chuvash State University O. Markiyanov, chairman of the trade union committee of Petrozavodsk State University L. Povilaynen, chairman of the trade union committee of Tomsk State University N. Puchkova, Chairman of the Trade Union of Yaroslavl State University P. Demidova, Chairman of the Trade Union of Mari State University L. Sadovina, Chairman of the Trade Union of Perm State University N. Sorokina and the chairman of the trade union committee of the Volgograd State University T. Yudina.
The participants of the congress met with the rector of the Voronezh State University, Professor P. Borisov, and had a talk with him about the role of trade union organizations of universities at the present stage.
The opportunity was given to visit the recreation and sports unit of Voronezh State University and to take part in the cultural program.
